GOOD FUN, GREAT ENTERTAINMENT
AT KONA CELEBRITY CONCERT

The music of Amy Hanaialii-Gilliom, Roland Cazimero and the Regency Park Boys was extraordinary and the crowd at Kona Bowl Aug. 10 enjoyed a wonderful evening thanks to the West Hawai'i co-chairs Bill Wong, Elaine Higashi and Larry Marr.

Sen. Lorraine Rodero Inouye, our candidate for Mayor, thanked the entertainers "for helping to perpetuate the Hawaiian culture that is such an important part of our life on the Island of Hawai'i."

In brief remarks, Lorraine said, "I just want to say to the people of West Hawai'i that I will work with you to relieve traffic congestion.  And as Mayor, all of our communities will receive their fair share of County resources."

Co-Chair Bill Wong said he was supporting Lorraine for Mayor because he knows "she will move projects forward and get the job done for West Hawai'i."

SUPPORTING WEST HAWAI'I FESTIVALS--Sen. Lorraine R. Inouye, our candidate for Mayor, and our dedicated volunteers walked in the Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament Parade July 27 in a show of support for this tournament that draws local residents and sportsmen from around the world.  Lorraine believes that events such as this showcase the beautiful Kona Coast and benefit the economy.

FOR OUR COMMUNITY--Our supporters in West Hawai'i organized a 5K/10K Run For Voter Registration to promote participation in the upcoming elections and to raise money for the Hauanio family that is in need of assistance to pay for medical treatment for their young sons. Pictured from left are Larry Marr, Patti Cook, Juliet Nacino, our candidate for Mayor, Lorraine Rodero Inouye, Elaine Higashi and Leilani Cannon. (Click for details)

MAHALO!

Thank you so much for all of your hard work, personal sacrifices and commitment to my campaign during the past year.

I extend a special thanks to the supporters, volunteers and the voters throughout the County of Hawai'i for your kindness and aloha during the Primary Election.

Congratulations and best wishes to all of the winners in the Primary and good luck to everyone in the Nov. 4 General Election.

I have been honored by a long career in public service, beginning in 1974 with my appointment to the Hawai'i County Planning Commission by then Mayor Shunichi Kimura.  I had the opportunity to serve on the Hawai'i State Plan Policy Council and then on the Hawai'i County Council from 1984 to 1990.

With the support of dedicated volunteers, we were successful in the 1990 Mayoral campaign.  Together, in two short years, we accomplished some wonderful things for our people, like the establishment of the 911 Emergency Response System, securing an emergency helicopter, completing the first comprehensive Agricultural Plan in the State, building affordable housing and improving our parks and roadways.

Again, with the hard work of dedicated volunteers, I was fortunate to be elected State Senator.  I am proud of my record of delivering millions of dollars to the Island of Hawai'i for health care, education, the University of Hawai'i at Hilo and its outreach programs in West Hawai'i and Hamakua, highways, our harbors, agriculture and high tech projects, such as the Natural Energy Laboratory at Keahole.

This year, we ran a positive campaign and spoke about the issues that are of the greatest concern to our people--the economy, traffic, jobs and our precious environment.

Although we were not successful, I am so very grateful to all of the volunteers and voters who participate in the election process and help preserve our great democracy.

I will  continue to be active in politics and in projects and programs that benefit the people of the County of Hawai'i.

Mahalo and God Bless

COURAGE AND CHARACTER--"Sen. Lorraine Inouye showed courage and character when she supported me as West Hawai'i's physician/legislator."   Praising Sen. Inouye for her actions, State Rep. Josh Green said, "It was very generous of Sen. Inouye and right on the mark.  I respect her for standing up when she sees an injustice being done."   Dr. Green represents North Kona, Keauhou, Kailua-Kona and Honokohau.

HAARI BOAT CREW-The Friends of Lorraine Inouye For Mayor entered an "all-women" crew for the Haari Boat Races in mid-August at Wailoa State Park.  Our crew, with the help of expert paddler and Hilo attorney Gerard Lee Loy, performed admirably and showed great team spirit.  Sen. Inouye is a staunch supporter of cultural festivals that preserve and highlight the special people of the Island of Hawai'i.  The Haari Boat Races are part of the celebration of the Okinawan people and the contributions to our community.
